KD Bookcases (unassembled) Specifications

Materials: KD Bookcases are fabricated of high quality, cold rolled carbon steel, free of scale or rust and fully pickled. Exposed edges, corners and surface areas are free of sharp edges and all workmanship is of the highest quality as measured by the industry.

Finish: All steel components shall be thoroughly cleaned and phosphatized for rust resistance in a five-stage pre-treatment process. A high grade of polyester/epoxy powder paint is to be applied electrostatically with a gloss reading of between 55 and 65. The finish shall have a salt spray rating of 250 hours or more.

Uprights: One upright is required for each side. They are made from 19 gauge, commercial grade, cold rolled steel. They have two rows of slots from top to bottom, every 1-1/2", to receive the shelves. Holes are provided for assembly with screws.

End Panels: End panels are stamped from 22 gauge cold rolled steel, front edge is double bent, rear has a single flange. All holes are provided for screw assembly. The panels are enamel painted. They are only required for end uprights.

Back: The back is stamped from 20 gauge flat, cold rolled steel, with holes for assembly, and painted with enamel.

Top: The top is made from 20 gauge cold rolled steel, with a double bend on the front edge. There are two brackets welded to the top near the front to fasten the top of the uprights. This results in a very strong corner construction.

Shelves: Shelves are made from 20 gauge cold rolled steel, front and back edges are double bent for strength. Two inch long slots are punched in the center of the shelf from end to end, spaced 1" apart, these are used with the dividers. Shelves have a welded hat channel, slotted to match the shelf and used also to support the dividers. The shelf has four stops to lock it into the slots of the uprights.

Base: The base is formed from 20 gauge cold rolled steel, is 3" high and used as the bottom shelf. It also has the row of slots 3/32" x 2", spaced 1" apart to support the dividers. It’s underside has an identical hat section welded to it, with slots aligned to support the dividers. All holes are provided for assembly.

Bookstops and Dividers: Stamped from 16 gauge cold rolled steel to fit into the slots of the shelves and base.

Tie Plates: Both front and rear tie plates are made from 16 gauge cold rolled steel and pierced to accept Tinnerman Nuts.
