Wood Finishes: |
In the manufacturing process, hardwood parts are glued, cut to size, machined and finish sanded on a 2-head wide belt-finishing sander. Hardwood veneer end panels are finish sanded on a Heesman automatic veneer panel sander. Finish sanding of veneer panels and hardwood parts include the use of 100, 120, and 150 grit-sanding belts.
After parts are assembled into a freestanding unit, final hand sanding and inspection prepared the unit for the first finishing step. The selected color finish is hand applied and cloth wiped to provide a uniform color.
One coat of sealer is applied with an airless sprayer and allowed to cure. After curing, the sealer is sanded with 220 grit sandpaper to provide a uniform smooth surface.
A final lacquer topcoat is applied with an airless sprayer and cured in a heated drying room. The topcoat dries smooth to approximately a 30-sheen finish, which is resistant to normal wear and scratching. |

Unit Description: |
A square edge design of 1" thick panels on the vertical sides with solid 3/16" hardwood front edge to match the bookcase. Top panels are 7/8" thick solid hard wood offered in nine different horizontal edge profiles. Profile choices are: square, bevel, reverse bevel, eased radius, full radius, bull nose, three bead reeded, scott traditional and reversed traditional. The overlay top panels are mounted to a sub-top and overhang the vertical sides of the bookcase approximately 5/8" with backs being flush. Overhang will vary slightly with choice of profile. The scott traditional and reversed traditional profiles include a 2" interior top valance. Custom edge profiles are available as specified by the customer at quoted up-charges. A 3" high flush closed base with leveling glides offers the most complete footing for self-standing cases. Adjustable 7/8" thick solid hardwood shelving is supported by four die cast metal shelf supports that are inserted into holes spaced at vertical one-inch increments along the interior side. On 60", 72" and 84"high cases, one shelf is factory installed at approximate mid point on the vertical panel using semi-permanent shelf supports. This provides superior bookcase side rigidity for shipping purposes. Semi-permanent shelf supports are available for all shelves at no charge if specified. The factory-installed shelf can be relocated by removing four wood screws from the shelf bottom and repositioning the supports. The shelf screws must be reinstalled. Cases are shipped completely set up ready for use except for placement of adjustable shelving.
